The project was conceived to remodel, renovate and expand an existing three story wood framed building. However, on the very first day of the construction, the building was destroyed by fire and had to be completely redesigned and rebuilt. The Architect kept an exhaustive collection of building photographs which made it possible to replicate the building to its original design and detailing. The main portion of the building is a three story wood framed structure containing sleeping rooms on the upper two floors. A central gable and a balcony mark the main entry. A two story wing contains the dining hall, kitchen, main lounges, memorial library and other support areas.
